TRIBUTES have been paid to a "well liked" cyclist who died after he was left at the side of the road in a hit and run.

Terry Brown died after he was struck on Warrington Road in Bold Heath while he was cycling to work.

The 47-year-old suffered serious head injuries and died in Aintree Hospital in Fazakerley.

He was a member of the North Cheshire Clarion Cycling Club who issued a statement: “It is with great sadness that we have to report that one of our members, Terry Brown, sadly passed away with his family by his side as a result of injuries received in a hit and run incident earlier in the day.

“Terry was a passionate and committed cyclist who regularly commuted to work in Liverpool from the Great Sankey area as well as participated in weekend club runs and was a well liked member of North Cheshire Clarion who will be missed.

“Our thoughts and sincere condolences go to his family at this sad time, rest in peace Terry.”

Others posted their messages of sympathy on the club's website. Brian New wrote: “Didn't know Terry but as a fellow cyclist who has ridden that road thousands of times at all times of the day and night.

"My sympathies go out to his family and all you guys who will miss riding with him.

"RIP Terry.”

Stew Ali added: “Very sad news. Our family lost a much loved cyclist so our thoughts very much with family and friends at this sad time.”

A 38-year-old man from Great Sankey has been bailed after he was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
