A 69-YEAR_OLD man died following a two car collision on St Helens Linkway late on Friday night (February 21), it has emerged.

Emergency services were called at around 10pm following reports a Ford C Max travelling southbound had been in collision with a Mazda car which in turn collided with the central reservation barrier.

The driver of the C Max died at the scene. His next of kin have been informed and a post mortem is due to be carried out.

The driver of the Mazda was uninjured and is assisting police with their enquiries. The road was closed for several hours while collision investigators attended the scene.
