A CHANCE visit to a job centre led to a return to the fold for store manager Lisa Jordan, the new manager at St Helens’ latest fashion store.

Roman, the family-owned women’s clothes retailer has moved into the Church Square Shopping Centre, headed by Lisa and her six-strong team.

It has given a boost to the town centre’s retail sector, which has been battling with closures and changing shopping trends.

The Birmingham-based company has returned to St Helens with its latest branch, having previously been in town within TJ Hughes.

Lisa, mum to five year-old Chloe, said: “I went with a friend to the job centre and saw the advert for a manager and just had to apply, because I knew the company so well.

“I previously worked with Roman as Cheltenham store manager, but had to leave when I moved north with my family to Rainhill, when my husband Tony, an electrical engineer, relocated to Whiston with his job.

“At the time Roman didn’t have a store in this area so I got a job managing a charity shop - but I love fashion and I’ve always liked the clothes that Roman Originals stocks.

“So far it’s been very busy. Many customers remember the brand from the previous store. I’d describe our range as classic daywear, evening and special occasion but without the price tag of some of the larger high street chains.“

Church Square Shopping Centre manager Steven Brogan welcomed the Roman team.

He said: “It’s lovely to welcome Lisa and her new recruits to the Church Square Shopping Centre team. Roman and its range of ladies fashion is a great addition to what’s already on offer.”

Roman, first established in 1957, now has more than 150 outlets around the UK. It designs and manufactures its own range of ladies clothing
