TWO students visited the hallowed halls of Cambridge University to try out lives as an undergraduate.

It is an annual event organised by the Cambridge University Students’ Union (CUSU) aimed at people from non-university backgrounds.

Jessica Phillips and Josh Downey, both 17 and from Carmel College teamed up with students from Fitzwilliam College and Trinity Hall, attending lectures, supervisions and local events.

Josh said: “There are many rumours and myths about Cambridge, and I wanted to see what it was really like and if I could fit in.

“I met lots of students and asked lots of questions. Cambridge now feels possible for me.”

Jessica, who hopes to study English at university, also found a warm welcome adding: “I couldn’t believe how friendly everyone was.”

Sam Ruiz, Access Officer for CUSU and one of the organisers of this year’s scheme said “The Shadowing Scheme gives bright students from state schools the chance to experience university life, and really helps to break down the myths surrounding Cambridge.

‘Shadows’ stay in a college, attend lectures with undergraduate mentors and tryS ocial activities with the student societies.
