THE search is continuing to find our local health heroes.

The Star has again teamed up with St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust staff awards to run the People’s Choice Award.

It gives readers the opportunity to reward the dedication of St Helens and Whiston hospital staff by nominating an individual or team they believe went the extra mile with treatment or service.

Last year’s winner was Leanne Davis, a nurse for more than 14 years. She was driving past New Street in Sutton when she saw a commotion around a bus stop.

Peter Prescott, a 79-year-old great-grandfather, had suffered a heart attack and her calmness under pressure and knowledge saved his life.

The winner will be honoured at the St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust 10th annual staff awards presentation evening at the Liverpool Arena in May.

The awards night is all about celebrating and recognising the caring work of hospital staff in St Helens and Whiston hospitals.

The staff and attendees will be joined by a number of famous faces – who do not take an appearance fee – for the celebration.

Nominations can be for any member of staff or team of staff in the hospitals.

Send the name of the person you are nominating, with the reason you are putting them forward, and your name and address, to Judith Marsland, Media, PR and Communications, Whiston Hospital, Warrington Road, Prescot, or email judith.marsland@sthk.nhs.

uk. The closing date for nominations is Friday, February 28.
