THE Mayor of St Helens Andy Bowden welcomed a delegation of a different kind to the town hall when he invited this group of young guests round for a cuppa and a biscuit.

Used to welcoming high-flyers and dignitaries into the parlour, the mayor invited pupils from Holy Cross Primary to examine the historical artefacts as part of their studies.

Teacher Suzanne Stout said: “We first visited the library which offers a local history workshop as their archive dates back to the early 1800s.

“Everyone then went over to look at the artefacts in the mayor’s parlour including chairs that kings and queens have sat on.

“The mayor was great and the children loved the visit.”

She explained that the visit was part of the Year six curriculum.
