APPLICATIONS have officially opened for Labour members to submit their names in the race to succeed Shaun Woodward as the candidate for St Helens South and Whiston.

Voters will choose their preferred candidate from an all-woman shortlist.

Former council leader Marie Rimmer faces competition from London councillor Catherine McDonald and Warrington council officer Eleanor Blackburn.

The closing date for applications is Monday, March 3
