A BRAVE quartet have signed up for a 160-ft bungee jump to raise funds for a new scanner at Whiston Hospital.

Family and friends of bereaved mums Claire Waring, aged 29, and Katy Quinn, 41, including Kimberley Joyce, 24, who has also lost a child, will take the plunge next month to support the Baby Loss Foundation.

Claire, a Top Shop assistant in St Helens Church Square shopping centre, and her friend Katy, help run the foundation.

Claire and her fiancée Kieran Revill lost their son Charlie to spina bifida 25 weeks into the pregnancy, in June 2012, while Katy has experienced three stillbirths.

Kimberley, from Parr, will be a member of the team who will take the plunge on March 16 at Salford Quays. She gave birth in January 2013 to a son, Isaac, who sadly died due to problems during the delivery.

She will be joined by 27-year-olds Kieran and his best man Kevin Fanning, a colleague at Morrison’s, St Helens.

The fourth member is Tesco worker Luke Cartwright, 27, who is engaged to Claire’s 24-year-old sister Maygen. He is doing the jump in memory of the baby the couple lost in April last year.

Maygen, from Blackbrook, who is expecting another child this July, will watch the event with their daughter Lily.

Claire and Kieran met as teenagers at St Augustine’s School, Blackbrook and plan to marry in summer 2015.

Claire said: “Customers and colleagues at Top Shop and staff at other Church Square stores have been supportive and generous. Another scanner will mean that parents experiencing baby loss don’t have to be scanned alongside people enjoying healthy pregnancies.”

Church Square shopping centre manager Steven Brogan said: “As a dad myself, I admire Claire and Katy for setting up such a group at a time when they are dealing with personal tragedy. I hope our generous customers are able to back this campaign.”

Kimberley said: “Since losing Isaac, I’ve really changed. I never would have considered doing this kind of thing before, but now the scariest thing in my life has already happened.”

Katy has a son and a daughter, but lost twins Hope and Faith in 2006 and her son, Andrew, last year. Donations can be made at goldengiving.com/fundraising/ BabyLossFoundationBungee.
