A HISTORY group is to move into a temporary home so that artefacts donated by members of the public can go on display.

An old barn which has been made available by the owners of Inglenook Farm will be the new location for the Rainford Heritage Society from Saturday.

Chairman of the group Ray Waring said that the move has been down to a team effort from local businesses including B&Q St Helens, which donated paint, Foster DIY in Fingerpost and Rainford joiner Dave Rigby.

He said that St Helens Chamber provided a team of 16-year-old boys from their Work Ready Scheme to help with the painting.

Ray added that it is hoped the centre will develop at Inglenook to showcase more of Rainford’s past as more items are donated by members of the village and wider community.

The new centre will be open between 10am and 4pm on week days and will be staffed by members of the group on certain weekends.

The next meeting will take place at the Village Hall, Rainford, on Monday, February 3 at 7.30pm.

Guest speaker Peter Keen will talk about the history of Sankey Canal. Entry to the talk is £2.
