STAR readers have the chance to salute their local health heroes as this newspaper’s annual support of the People’s Choice Award continues.

It gives readers the opportunity to reward the dedication of St Helens and Whiston hospital staff by nominating the individual or team they believe went the extra mile for you or your family with treatment or service.

Last year’s winner was Leanne Davis, a nurse for more than 14 years. She was driving past New Street in Sutton when she saw a commotion around a bus stop.

Peter Prescott, a 79-year-old great-grandfather, had suffered a heart attack and her calmness under pressure and knowledge saved his life.

The winner will be honoured at the St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, 10th annual staff awards presentation evening at the Liverpool Arena in May.

This awards night is all about celebrating and recognising the caring work of hospital staff in St Helens and Whiston hospitals.

The staff and attendees will be joined by a number of famous faces – who do not take an appearance fee – on a night that is a joyous occasion.

Nominations can be for any individual member of staff or any team of staff within the hospitals.

As well as the People’s Choice Award, chosen by the St Helens Star readers, there will also be awards on the evening for the following: Excellence in Clinical Care Excellence in Support Services Excellence in Service Improvement Excellence in Patient Experience Employee of the Year Team of the Year The event is at no cost to the NHS.
