DETECTIVES hunting a knifeman who sexually assaulted a woman as she walked through a Knowsley park have made a fresh CCTV appeal.

The incident took place prior to midnight on Monday, January 13, as a 19-year-old woman was walking through Jubilee Park, Roby.

Today Merseyside Police made a region-wide appeal for information.

The woman was walking through the park, at around 11.45pm when she was approached by a man near to the children’s’ play area.

The man produced a knife and a struggle ensued. The offender is believed to have fled from the park, using the Lincombe Road exit, onto Barnwood Road and into Dinas Lane.

A man who police believe could help with their enquiries is pictured seen walking through Huyton Village.

He was wearing a distinctive top as the hood, which was possibly blue coloured, had a white stripe.

Detective Sergeant Paul Donaghy from Merseyside Police’s Matrix Serious Organised Crime Team, said: "We believe that someone in the community may recognise the man pictured on the CCTV.

"The incident happened two weeks today, and it might be that someone in the community takes the same route in the car or on foot - maybe on their way home from work, or even walking the dog and recognises the man?

"The victim walked from near to Wilson Road, to Lathom Road, through Huyton Village, along Rupert Road, into Church Road and onto Dinas Lane before entering the park.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was walking or driving along any of these roads, who may have information that could help our investigation to call us.

"The victim in this case bravely fought her attacker off and we are working hard to trace the person responsible.

“We continue to appeal for the community, who we know are similarly outraged by this incident, for any information about the person pictured in the CCTV to get in contact.

“Any information, no matter how small could be vital to our enquiries.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Unity team on 0151 777 1382, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
