A FRENCH teacher has been awarded the MBE in the New Year’s Honours List.

Head of French at Carmel College, Margaret Houghton, was recognised for her services to education.

Students wrote on the college’s Facebook page: “Huge congratulations Margaret from everyone at Carmel and all your former students. We look forward to hearing about your visit to Buckingham Palace to meet the Queen.

“Margaret isn’t on Facebook, but she wants to say thank you for all the kind messages and best wishes she has received. I think she’s feeling rather overwhelmed.”
