POLICE have confirmed the man found dead at an industrial premises yesterday (Monday, January 20) in Earlestown has been identified as being 49-year-old business owner George Howley.

A post-mortem is to be carried out following Mr Howley's death at Secure Disposal Services Limited at Suez Street.

Ambulance crews were called yesterday morning to reports his arm was trapped in machinery but they were later stood down.

The area was cordoned offf for several hours while emergency services attended the scene.

A joint investigation by Merseyside Police and the Health and Safety Executive is continuing.

A police statement read: "Officers were called to the site in Suez Street at 11.15am by the ambulance service.

"On arrival emergency services found a man aged in his 40s who had been found dead having sustained injuries while operating machinery.

"The site and a small nunber of roads around it have been cordoned off. 

"The man's family are aware of his death and a police family liaison officer has been appointed to provide support to them at this difficult time."
