ST HELENS Foodbank is asking for food donations to any of the council’s 13 libraries during the winter period.
Donations can include almost any tinned or dried packet foods, including tinned meat and vegetables, soups, packets of rice, pasta and cereals.
Items which are urgently needed include UHT milk, sugar, cartons of orange juice, tinned rice pudding, tinned fruit, instant mash, pasta, rice, packets of pasta in sauces and jam. However, no fresh food will be accepted.
The council’s library team has also agreed to knock off £1 off every fine for each item donated.
The St Helens Foodbank provides a minimum of three days’ emergency food and support to those in crisis.
