FIRE crews carried out a dramatic rescue after a man was pinned by a van that had flipped onto its side.

They were called at around 4.47am on Friday (January 17) on Park Road South close to Acorn Street in Newton-le-Willows.

The male driver who is approximately 35-years-old was trapped by his arm which was out of the window and stuck underneath the vehicle.

Firefighters used air bags to lift the van so he could be released.

He was taken to University Hospital Aintree to be treated for injuries to his arm. It is believed that just one vehicle was involved in the incident.
