CONGRATULATIONS have been pouring in to St Helens darter Stephen Bunting after he became the 2014 BDO world champion.
Bunting, known as ‘The Bullet’ beat Alan Norris 7-4 in last night’s final at the Lakeside to win his first world title.
He shed tears of joy afterwards and described the feeling as "absolutely magnificent".
Plenty of towns people have offered their congratulations via social media.
“Big congratulations to Stephen Bunting. Well done pal #Champion” tweeted middleweight boxer Martin Murray.
Former Saints and Warrington rugby league star Lee Briers tweeted, “Congratulations on a tremendous achievement pal” while former Saints captain Bobbie Goulding said, “Congratulations Stephen Bunting. Great achivement, unreal to call yourself world champ!”
Sports broadcaster and commentator Stuart Pyke said, “Well done Stephen Bunting – St Helens will be proud of your achivement” while mayor Cllr Andy Bowden tweeted, “Congratulations Stephen Bunting – World Darts Champion!”
The Steve Prescott Foundation also passed on their congratulations tweeting, “Elated for Stephen Bunting. Totally deserved World Darts Champion. Great for St Helens, sure the St Helens public will give him a hero’s welcome!”
Meanwhile Saints’ official Twitter page said, “Congrats to St Helens’ very own Stephen Bunting on his BDO World Championship win!”
