A MAN had to be cut free from a car after it left the road at Haydock Island and flipped onto its side.
Firefighters were called at around 9.44pm yesterday (Sunday, January 5) close to the East Lancs.
They stabilised the car and removed tree branches before rescuing the 56-year-old man.
A woman who had also been in the car managed to climb out before fire crews arrived.
Both were checked by paramedics before being taken to Warrington Hospital.
Firefighters from Newton and St Helens along with the Search and Rescue team attended the call out and left the scene by 10.56pm.
