A LORRY driver has appeared in court charged with killing a grandfather by careless driving.

Michael Stockton from St Helens suffered fatal injuries when his motorcycle was in collision with a HGV tipper truck in Bolton last September.

He was taken to Salford Royal Hospital but died shortly after.

Appearing at Bolton Magistrates’ Court an emotional Andrew Patton spoke to confirm his name and address but did not enter a plea.

The 32-year-old from Holyoake Road in Worsley was placed on conditional bail and he will attend a preliminary hearing at Bolton Crown Court on January 17.

Mr Stockton, 59, had been travelling to work as a joiner when the incident happened at around 9am.
