Jobs are under threat at Pilks
UNIONS will fight to prevent compulsory redundancies at Pilks.
It was announced in November 140 jobs will be lost following the closure of a float glass production line at Cowley Hill.
Charlie Leonard GMB regional officer said: “We have been arguing with the company about compulsory redundancies. But we have to be positive. The main thing is we don’t want compulsory redundancies.”
St Helens South and Whiston MP, Shaun Woodward, and council leader Barrie Grunewald, pledged their support to Pilkington employees under threat of redundancy following a meeting with union chiefs.
Mr Leonard added: “The meeting went well. They offered their support and said they would press our case with the company.”
