EVERTON football stars Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman brought some festive spirit to Whiston Hospital when they paid a visit to the children’s ward.

The Blues’ defenders delivered presents to the sick children at the hospital and spoke to their star-struck dads.

Both spent the afternoon at the hospital posing for photos and signing autographs.

Irish full-back Coleman said it was rewarding to see how a small gesture could go such a long way.

He said: “It’s great for the players to come out and do these things.

“To put a smile on some kids' faces – and the parents as well – at this time of year is very special.”

England left-back Leighton Baines, who is currently out injured, echoed the sentiments of his team-mate.

He said: “Visits like this are always a good thing to do, and it puts a perspective on things.

“When you have your own kids you are touched that bit more when you see other children and parents in difficult situations because they are in the type of position you don’t want to find yourself in.”
