A MOTORIST suffered injuries to his legs and back when he was mown down by a car near to a busy roundabout, it has emerged.

The 21-year-old was hurt after getting out of his BMW which had been involved in an incident with a silver Vauxhall Zafira on the roundabout on Kirkland Street.

Police say that a few moments after he got out of his car, after parking on nearby Lowe Street South, he was hit by the Zafira, which then drove off.

The driver of the Zafira is believed to be a white man, aged between 35 and 40-years-old, with short dark hair and noticeable stubble. He's also described as being stocky.

A woman is thought to have been in the front passenger seat of the Zafira, along with a child in the back.

There was damage caused to the BMW and it is believed there was damage to the front passenger side of the Zafira.

Police issued a belated appeal to the the incident, which happened more than a month ago at around 5.30pm on Tuesday, November 5.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Turner, St Helens CID, said: "We believe the Vauxhall Zafira was deliberately driven into the victim, leaving him badly shaken up and with injuries to his legs and back.

"The incident happened in the middle of the afternoon rush-hour on Bonfire Night so it may have stuck in people's minds.

"I would ask anyone who saw what happened to get in touch with us. I'd also appeal to the driver of the Zafira, or anyone who thinks they may know him, to come forward."
