A MAN suffered a fractured cheekbone after he was brutally assaulted as he made his way home from a night out.

The 27-year-old had been walking along Clipsley Lane in Haydock just before 7am when he was approached by two men. As one of them spoke to him the other punched him in the face.

Both then walked away leaving their victim with a broken cheekbone which needed hospital treatment.

The first offender is described as white, in his 20s, 5ft 8in tall and of medium build. He was wearing a grey baseball cap with a black peak, dark tracksuit bottoms and a grey long sleeve top.

The second man is also white with a tanned complexion. He is in his 20s around 6ft tall with a stocky build with black short shaved hair. He was wearing jeans and a long sleeved polo shirt.

The incident, which happened on Sunday, November 17 was reported to the police on Wednesday, December 4.

Detective Constable Lesley Sanderson,said: "This man was walking home after a night out before this unprovoked and violent assault. The victim has had to undergo an operation in hospital due to the injuries he sustained.

“We take incidents of this nature very seriously and are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to call us to assist the investigation.

“I am particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have seen three men in the area at around the time of this assault acting suspiciously."
