WORK is continuing on the £4 million remodelling of Victoria Park.
Heritage Lottery Fund money has enabled ongoing refurbishment aimed at returning the park and the orangery adjoining the grand Mansion House to their former glory.
Built in 1850 for solicitor, John Andsell, the Mansion House is now owned and managed by Age UK Mid Mersey and serves the community being licensed for weddings, banquets and special events.
The orangery is expected to be completed by next Spring and the intention is to maximise its use by the community, especially focusing on people with dementia.
Finances to cover the cost of the building work on the orangery were boosted by donations from The Big Give which saw donations matched to double their value.
The park’s Mansion House and orangery are now home to Age UK Mid-Mersey, whose chief executive Mark Lunney said: “The exciting development of Victoria Park offers magnificent improvements for the community to enjoy. We are proud to be the custodians.
“We are very lucky to be able to work in such pleasing surroundings and enjoy such terrific views of natural beauty. I would encourage people to visit the park and see its wonderful transition.”
