A MAN needed surgery on a fractured jaw after being set upon outside a takeaway in an alleged racially motivated attack.

The 26-year-old man was racially abused and attacked by a group of men following a night out in Newton-le-Willows, say police.

He was outside Milano Pizza, Bridge Street, with two relatives when a number of men – who had been part of a larger group – assaulted him.

Detective Sergeant Lee Stinchcombe, said: “This man was enjoying a night out in Newton-le-Willows with his family before this unprovoked and violent assault.

“The victim has had to undergo an operation in hospital due to the injuries he sustained.

“We take incidents of this nature very seriously and are appealing to anyone with information about this incident to call us to assist the investigation.

”I am particularly interested in speaking to a large group of men aged between 20 and 30 years, who were outside the takeaway shop at the time. These men might have important information that could assist our enquiries."

The victim underwent an operation at University Hospital Aintree.
