A CLUB which has helped people forge firm friendships for more than half a century has been forced to close because of falling numbers.
The final meeting of Moss Bank Darby and Joan Club was held last Friday, 56 years after its formation.
A plaque commemorating the club was unveiled at Moss Bank Mission by 89-year-old Norah Pickett, who has been secretary and treasurer for almost 30 years.
She was assisted by Mrs Barbara Monks, vice-chairman of Moss Bank management committee.
Arthur Moore and the Moss Bank committee provided afternoon tea and Ron Crookes entertained.
Mr Moore thanked Norah for her efforts with the club and praised her team of helpers.
