ST JOHN Ambulance is encouraging St Helens people to give an extra special gift to a loved one this Christmas.

Research carried out earlier this year revealed that over half of parents in the North West lack the skills necessary to save their child in the event of a life-threatening accident.

Booking a first aid course for a friend or family member will give them the skills to be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.

Early in the New Year first aid courses are being held at several venues where in just three hours people will be taught how to deal with incidents such as choking, severe bleeding and cardio pulmonary resuscitation.

To encourage more people to learn vital life saving skills the charity is offering a third off the cost of all bookings made before the end of December.

St John regional training and community projects manager Graham Ellis said: “Learning first aid is one of the single most important things you can do in your life. You never know when you may need it – at home, at work, in school, playing sport – you just don’t know. What better gift is there than the skills to save a life.”

Courses will run from January to March 2014. For more information and to take advantage of the discount, call St John Ambulance on 0161 443 0106 and quote NWPR2014.
