A CAT which was left for dead needs a new home after a generous resident sold belongings to save its life.
Cherie Rolph, of Butneys, Basildon, cleared her cupboards to raise cash to bring the kitten, called Mouse, to Basildon after an adopter pulled out at the last minute.
Animal lovers across the borough raised £400 to fund transport for Mouse and another cat, Mickey, who had also had been found traumatised in Romania, plus a complicated eye operation for Mouse. His eyelashes were growing inside his eyelids.
Cherie found out about the kittens when volunteering at Hazlewood Cat Rescue Centre, based in Southend Road, Corringham.
She hopes someone will come forward to adopt Mouse, after Mickey was rehomed.
She said: “It’s amazing Mouse has lived, to be honest.
“Before, he was very withdrawn and very dependent.
“He hadn’t slept without pain since birth, then the afternoon when the vets stitched his eye, he changed instantly.
“He was jumping about and playing with whatever he could find.
“I sold jewellery and clothes online to raise money because I didn’t want to take funds from the charity. I’m very grateful people donated.”
Vets at Cherrydown Veterinary Centre slashed their fees to perform the operation Mouse has been microchipped, neutered and has a passport.
To adopt the cat, which requires a £60 rehoming fee, call 07813920050.
