WHEN a group of workmates organised a sponsored walk along the route of an old railway line last year little did they know how successful it would turn out to be.
The crew from St Helens Central Station raised £2,200 for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital when they took part in the 12-mile walk along the Wirral Way from West Kirkby to Hooton.
Malcolm Campbell, 52, from Prescot, who works at St Helens Central, said they had called the event George’s Walk after a regular customer to the station who called everyone George.
George’s Walk II will take place on Saturday, December 7 and will keep the rail theme.
They will walk the eight-mile route from Hebden Bridge to Todmorden station in Yorkshire.
Malcolm said: “All members of staff at St Helens will take part in the walk, some fat, some thin, some tall, some short.
“This year’s walk is in aid of Willowbrook Hospice because of its connections with St Helens and because the husband of a retired member of staff was cared for there.”
The group will again be accompanied by Malcolm’s Jack Russell Finn.
