Britain's Got Talent finalists Richard and Adam Johnson headline Christmas lights switch on
FRESH from scoring a number one album, Britain’s Got Talent finalists Richard and Adam Johnson will be performing at the Christmas lights switch on next month.
They will be joined by Irish singer-songwriter Jordan O’Keefe plus beatbox band Duke at the event on Victoria Square on Saturday, November 16.
There will also be a healthy dose of St Helens talent on stage.
Since appearing on the hit TV programme Richard and Adam have enjoyed huge success and are set to release ‘The Christmas Album’, which puts an operatic twist on festive classics including ‘Silent Night’ and ‘Away in a Manger’.
Their debut album ‘The Impossible Dream’ topped the UK chart for four weeks, selling more than 100,000 copies.
Jordan O’Keefe who also appeared on Britain’s Got Talent, earning rave reviews from the judges with his performances of ‘Little Things’ by One Direction and ‘Firework’ by Katy Perry.
Duke performs a huge array of covers without backing tracks, looping or sampling and have appeared at the Leeds Festival, Lovebox and Parklife.
St Helens Council Leader Barrie Grunewald said: “The Christmas lights switch on is one of our main events – and an important date for our town centre retailers who stand to benefit from the surge in footfall. We’re sure that thousands of residents from across the borough and beyond will enjoy the great free entertainment that’s on offer.”
The switch on marks the start of a packed Christmas programme including:
• Saturday 23 November - The Christmas Train in Church Square.
• Saturday 30 November - The Crazy Bears Christmas Show.
• Saturday 7 December - Real penguins and Wirral Sound Marching Band.
• Saturday 14 December - Santa and his real reindeer.
• Saturday 21 December - Festive singing from the Visual Ministry Gospel Choir.
Free festive car parking
From November 23 to December 21, there will be free parking on each Saturday (except the Millennium Centre car park) These include Chalon Way, Tontine, St Mary's, Hardshaw Centre and Birchley Street.
Town centre opening hours
There’s late night shopping every Thursday from November 21 and between Monday December 16 and Monday December 23.
