Commentator Ray French to bow out of television work after Rugby League World Cup
9:33am Monday 21st October 2013 in News
RAY French will bring the curtain down on his BBC television duties at the end of the forthcoming Rugby League World Cup, reports the Times newspaper.
The former Cowley schoolteacher, a dual-code international and ex-Saints player, will step down 32 years after succeeding Eddie Waring behind the mic.
His career with the broadcaster has spanned more than 1,000 matches.
The Times reports his television swansong will come in the World Cup semi-finals next month at Wembley.
Windle-based French, the Liverpool St Helens rugby union president, told the newspaper he can think of no better time to sign off from a “30-odd year privilege” than a World Cup.
He will continue working for BBC Radio Merseyside.
