9:06am Friday 11th October 2013 in News
A BMW that was being pursued by police along the M62 ploughed into barriers during the early hours, leaving two men injured.
The silver car failed to stop for police having been initially sighted on Liverpool Road in Huyton.
It was being pursued by police towards Liverpool and collided with the barriers towards the end of the motorway shortly before 1am.
Four men - two aged 28 and two aged 26 - were in the BMW.
The 28-year-old driver suffered a neck injury and a 26-year-old passenger suffered a suspected broken hip. The other two passengers were uninjured.
None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.
A Merseyside Police statement read: “A police investigation into the collision is now underway by the force's professional standards department due to the prior police contact with the BMW before the collision occurred.
“The west-bound carriageway towards the city was closed from junction 5 Bowring Park through to The Rocket pub.”
A diversion was in place through much of rush hour this morning while debris and fuel was cleared from the road.
Motorists are being advised that the M62 towards Liverpool has now reopened.
