A MAN and a woman have been bailed by police after being arrested on suspcion of manufacturing drugs following the discovery of a chemical haul at a house.

Tonight police confirmed a 61-year-old man and 39-year-old woman held following the raid at a house on Sutton Road had been released.

Earlier teams in forensic suits were continuing to comb the house at the centre of the major drugs investigation.

A large amount of chemicals - believed to be used for the manufacture of drugs - were found on Wednesday night.

People living nearby were initially advised to keep their windows and doors closed while Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service determined if there was any risk to the public.

But today they relaxed that warning after ruling the chemicals did not present a threat.

Nevertheless, officers could be seen wearing the white body suits as they continued searches of the scene.

Gaskell Street and Baxters Lane was closed yesterday - but have since reopened.
