Vulnerable warned over key box tricksters
9:47am Tuesday 1st October 2013 in News
A WARNING has gone out to vulnerable people who have key safe boxes that allow carers access to their homes.
People with such devices have been phoned by tricksters who have asked for the access code to the box.
St Helens Council has been informed that one service user has been contacted by a person claiming to be from a recognised, accredited company, requesting that they disclose their number.
The resident refused to provide the combination numbers and contacted the company named and discovered no such request had been made.
Councillor Joe Pearson, cabinet member for Adult Care and Health said: “It is vital that people do not disclose their key safe number over the phone as doing so literally opens your door to unwelcome visitors.”
Anyone who has been contacted and asked for their key safe number should ring the Council Helpline on 01744 676789.
