Friends praised by Mayor of St Helens for fire rescue

THREE courageous teenage friends who smashed their way into a burning flat to rescue two men earned praise from the Mayor of St Helens at a full council meeting.
Cllr Andy Bowden praised the young men “whose selfless actions prevented a bad situation becoming considerably worse”.
A Star front page story earlier this month reported how Callum Chadwick, Ethan Chisnall and Josh Jump saved the men after a chip pan caught fire at Beacon Grove in Blackbrook.
Josh, 14, who suffers from asthma, draped a sheet across his nose and mouth as they kicked in a door panel to get inside the flat.
They rescued one man and dragged him out before, remarkably, going back inside after realising another man was still in there.
The friends could yet to be invited to the mayor’s parlour to further recognise their bravery, and emergency services have also taken note of the heroics.
