PICTURES: Wildcard boxers go toe to toe in St Helens town centre
BOXERS from Wildcard ABC are ready for action again after a busy summer break.
The youngest club members proudly showed their skills to intrigued shoppers in St Helens town centre with young professional prospect Gary Ormrod taking time out to support, coach and guide the juniors then present them with exhibition day medals.
Head coach Dom Hodnett told the Star: “We owe a massive thanks to Gary and all the parents, kids and supporters and Re:New Parr for making this event possible.
“An off-season fundraiser was a sponsored race up Moel Famau in North Wales saw Ryan Moore cross the finish first and members are grateful to Julie Jones, Paul Reilly plus Yvonne and Joanne Abbott who helped raise £700 for the club.”
Wildcard fighters also took part with Phoenix ABC in a boxing exhibition at Decathlon Sports in Warrington and took part in a sparring exhibition fundraiser at Tuebrook, Liverpool.
In a fortnight the season opener will be a boxing show at Clock Face Labour Club and Wildcard are looking to carry on from last season which was the club’s best to date with two ABA national finalists, three regional champions and a regional finalist.
