The upgrading work by Merseyside Recycling and Waste Authority (MRWA) will create new access roads, split level layout and skip area.
Carl Beer, chief executive of MRWA, said: “The improvements are all part of a bigger plan to balance first class recycling facilities with the need to deliver value for money to the Merseyside public.”
Residents can use sites at Rainford, Kirkby, Rainhill, Newton-le-Willows and Huyton during the Ravenhead closure.
Star readers have questioned the timing of the closure given that that a major change in bin services is just starting in St Helens.
