Teenager held on suspicion of murder after pensioner dies at Borough Road flats in St Helens

AN 18-year-old man is being questioned by detectives on suspicion of murdering a 69-year-old man who was found dead at a flat on Friday night (September 13).
Police were called to the address on Borough Road, near to the former Sacred heart Social club, St Helens at about 9.40pm.
They found the body of a 69-year-old man in the living room of the property. He had died at the scene.
A post mortem examination has been carried out and “an injury to the head” has been given as the cause of death.
An 18-year-old man from the Newtown area of St Helens has been arrested on suspicion of murder.
He is currently in police custody where he is being questioned by detectives. The flat has been cordoned off and forensic examinations have been carried out.
A police spokeswoman said: “Officers are carrying out house-to-house enquiries to see if anyone living locally saw or heard, anything suspicious.
“A post mortem examination has been carried out and an injury to the head has been given as the cause of death.”
The victim has been formally identified and officers have notified his next of kin.
