A SINGER who has made it through to the regional final of one of the UK’s largest singing competitions is now asking her home town to pledge its support.

Allessandria Sivori, from Newton-le-Willows, impressed judges at the North West auditions of Open Mic UK, and is now looking forward to representing St Helens at the regional final event, due to take place in October.

The ex-Carmel College student has been singing since she was a child, having been strongly influenced by her auntie’s Motown collection, which included the likes of Dusty Springfield and Smokey Robinson.

She has gigged in pubs and clubs across the north west, developing her style by giving a ‘twist’ to well-known numbers from past and current eras.

Open Mic UK is a national singing competition that has helped recognise the likes of young sensations Lucy Spraggan, Jahmene Douglas and Birdy.

It gives aspiring musicians the chance to expose their talent to major players in the industry and win an array of prizes, such as recording studio time and £5,000 in cash.

Allessandria said: “I’ve always had a passion for singing and have a burning ambition to be a star.

“There are also opportunities to perform live at some of the country’s biggest venues, including the 02 Arena in London.

“Ever since I was little I knew this was what I wanted to do.

“I like to mix the modern with the old and shake things up a bit. It’s always good to do the songs that people know.

“I’ve had lots of support so far from local people; especially from where I live in Newton.

“They’ve given me a great following.”

Allessandria will be performing at the St Helens Christmas light switch-on ceremony this November, and has plans to enter the X Factor next year.

She added: “The more support you get now, the better it is in the long-run for when you enter those larger competitions.

“At the moment I’m just looking to get my name out there and hopefully gather a local following.”
