A 42-YEAR-OLD man who battered his girlfriend around the face in a drunken jealous rage has been jailed for 22 months.
Liverpool Crown Court heard that David Pendlebury had been out drinking with Samantha Benson and when they returned to her Haydock home he began accusing her of flirting.
Describing the events of June 22, said Rob Jones, prosecuting, said: "His behaviour became increasingly erratic and he threatened to cut off her hair and cut her with a razor blade and she fled into the kitchen.”
He smashed her phone on the floor but she managed to run into the back yard. Her screams for help where heard by a woman visiting a neighbour.
Mr Jones added: "She saw him grab hold of her by the throat and drag her forcibly back into the property. At that point he punched and kicked her with some severity and force.
“The blows were primarily to her head and face. She managed to put her arm up in defence but one of the bones in her hand was broken, she maintains by a stamp”
The attack only ended when the police arrived and he ran off.
The victim was taken to hospital where she was found to have bruising to her face, body and legs, swelling to the top of her head, cuts inside her lips and a broken bone in her hand.
Pendlebury, of Sidney Street, Newtown, pleaded guilty to assault causing actual bodily harm and criminal damage.
The court heard that he was on licence from a four year jail term for burglary, escape and possessing an offensive weapon at the time and has been recalled to prison.
Judge Steven Everett jailed him and also imposed a five year restraining order to keep away from Ms Benson and the street where she lives.
David Watson, defending, said that Pendlebury's elderly mother lives in the same street.
However, the judge said that the order was necessary to protect Ms Benson who was concerned about meeting Pendlebury.
