Investigation ongoing after schoolgirl Megan Hopwood dies following 'scooter fall' in Whiston

AN investigation has been launched into the sudden death of a schoolgirl who was found collapsed on the street after apparently falling from a child’s scooter.
A police car was flagged down by members of the public after 13-year-old Megan Hopwood was disocvered unconscious on Eglington Avenue in Whiston at around 9.10pm on Saturday (September 7).
A post mortem is to be carried out today (Monday, September 9), to establish the cause of death and enquiries are ongoing.
A tribute page has been set up on Facebook, which has already attracted more than 4,000 likes and a stream of condolence messages.
Lezleigh Bailey wrote: “RIP little angel. Thinking of your friends and family at this sad time.”
Kayla Fairhurst added: “My thoughts and prayers are with you. Can’t believe it. So sad. My heart breaks for you all. Very much in my thoughts.”
People will be gathering at Tesco in Whiston this Friday (September 13) to light lanterns in tribute.
