In the bag: Platform artists find a winning way to get their art seen
12:20pm Sunday 1st September 2013 in News
A TALENTED bunch of local artists have just bagged a novel creative opportunity.
The winners of the Platform ARTbag competition, which aims to brighten up those dull shopping trips while highlighting the work of local artists, have been revealed.
Townsfolk were invited to pack a bit of art into their weekly shop and vote for their favourite design that they would like to see on a shopping bag. Sixteen artists and their designs were entered, but only four would be chosen to see their creations on a shopping bag, ready for the public to take home.
The winning artists are: Tony Glover with ‘Future Hopes & Dreams’; Naoise Johnson Martin with ‘Verval In Fasen’; Emma Flynn with ‘Pink Rose’ and Rhyannon Parry with ‘Moments’.
These four crowd-pleasing designs will be printed onto limited edition shopping bags and available for the public to buy.
Platform is a voluntary arts organisation in St Helens working to provide opportunities for creative people to work together and raise the profile of art across the town.
The Art In The Market exhibition is the start of Heart Of Glass – the ambitious arts initiative that is set to unfold in St Helens over the next three years. The exhibition will be about raising awareness of and encouraging greater involvement in culture and the arts. Attendees will also have the chance to shape the initiative and share what they’d like to see happen over the next three years.
