Cat care crisis: Abandoned pet found after being scalded with boiling water
THE co-founder of a cat rescue charity has spoken of the horrific cruelty inflicted on some of the helpless creatures they have taken into their centre.
Jackie Day runs Kitten Karers with Trisha Jones and reckons they have never known a time when so many cats are being ruthlessly dumped.
She explained: “We are getting at the very least ten calls a day from people who can’t get to the Cats Protection or RSPCA.
“It’s run from my house and we are there 24 hours a day. But now we even have cats in almost every room and have had to close.”
Explaining the types of cases she is involved with, Jackie said: “I was called out to a house where a cat was in a bad state. It had a tumour and was wasting away. I have also been called out to rescue kittens and injured animals.
“I have been working in rescue for 35 years, but we are seeing a huge increase in abandoned cats.
“Many that come here are malnourished and we had one that had boiling water poured over her, with fur missing down the side.
“A lot of people are moving into rented accommodation and can’t take their pets.
“I went to one house in Sutton, where there were 11 cats, three of them pregnant.
“There are also a lot of people selling cats over the internet, where people can get the exact colour they want.
“Some claim they are crossed with specific types, but they are not.
“Also ours are fully vaccinated.”
