DETECTIVES investigating a serious assault against a 22-year-old man are appealing for a woman who stopped to help to contact them.
The victim was being assaulted by three other young men on waste ground near Stephenson Road, Newton-le-Willows last Sunday evening when the woman passed by.
She is believed to have shouted at his attackers to stop, while a second passer-by, a man, called the police and ambulance service.
The victim, who had been drinking with his attackers in a nearby flat in the hours leading up to the 6.30pm assault, suffered a fractured eye socket, a fractured cheekbone and fractured wrist.
He was taken to Warrington Hospital for treatment and released two days later.
