TWO men were arrested by police after detectives appealed through the Star about a street attack that left a victim with a bleed on the brain.
The men, aged 28 and 25, were questioned on suspicion of assault before being released on bail by detectives.
An appeal in the Star showed CCTV images of two men who had visited Renshaws Bar on Westfield Street, St Helens, prior to the alleged assault.
The beating happened on Water Street, near to the St Helens College campus, during the early hours of Thursday, June 27.
Two friends had been drinking earlier in Renshaws and were making their way to a taxi rank when they were allegedly attacked from behind.
A 22-year-old man was left with serious injuries to his head. Scans at hospital revealed he suffered a bleed on the brain as well as cuts to his chin and arm.
His friend, also 22, suffered a bloodied mouth.
