Farmer Chris beefs up cash for air ambulance

Chris completed an epic motorbike ride in under 24 hours for the Iron Butt Association’s ‘Saddlesore 1,000’.

Chris who farms at Shoots Delph in Moss Bank teamed up with Lynden Page from Ramsbottom for the Scottish spin on behalf of the regional charity, which provides emergency care from the air.

The pair took to their bikes and steered around the North Coast of Scotland via John O’Groats with the journey starting and finishing at the Tickled Trout in Preston.

Back on the farm, Chris said: “We are so aware of the fantastic service that the North West Air Ambulance Charity provides year in year out, and this ride was our way of trying to help.

“This journey was difficult for us both, but knowing that the NWAA helicopter is always on call made us yet again realise what we were doing this for.”

The North West Air Ambulance Charity’s helicopters fly 365 days a year, with the doctors and paramedics on board providing rapid treatment, hospital transfers and ultimately giving the gift of time to patients across the entire North West region each year.

Since it launched in 1999, the charity has flown more than 11,000 missions across the region.

The charity is reliant on public and corporate donations, and this year it needs to raise more than £4.3million per year to keep both of the North West’s Air Ambulance helicopters operational and helping to save lives.
