NEIGHBOURS dedicated to breathing life into their community have lined up their next two projects.

The Newton and Earlestown Community Group will be working with rangers on Mesnes Park to help spruce up parts of the heritage trail.

They have pencilled in Sunday, June 16, when they are due to meet at Willow Park before the clean-up operation at Castle Hill.

Working alongside the council, Hope Academy and Newton Heritage Group, they are working to rejuvenate the Newton Heritage Trail.

On Sunday, July 14, they will meet again at Mesnes Park to help paint the markers on the trail as well as tidying pathways through Naylor’s Wood. Families are welcome and tools will be provided by the rangers.

Newton councillor Seve Gomez-Aspron, who has been promoted to the council’s cabinet, with responsibility for the environment and neighbourhoods said: “It is important to take pride in our local surroundings.

“The job the rangers do is brilliant, and this is a nice way for the public to show their appreciation but also to take ownership of our well used parks.”

The group is also working on plans to resurrect Newton Show after 13 years. It is expected to be take place in Mesnes Park on Saturday, August 3.
