JUST when you thought it was safe to pack away the thermals, winter is set to bite back ahead of the weekend.

Heavy snow and sleet is being forecast for St Helens overnight on Thursday and into Friday morning, with another heavy dowfall predicted on Saturday.

The Met Office has three yellow warnings in place for the North West on Thursday, Friday and Saturday with freezing conditions overnight.

And the maximum daytime temperatures for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are not expected to rise much above two degrees, well down on the average high for early Spring of around 10.
