Campaigning councillor dies after long illness
TRIBUTES have been paid to a former councillor, who has died after a long illness.
Carole Kavanagh represented the people of Moss Bank from 1994 to 2012 and was a former cabinet member for Environmental Protection.
Former deputy council leader and colleague Suzanne Knight said: “Carole will be greatly missed by her family, friends and constituents who she served so well for 19 years. She worked tirelessly and put her constituents first before party politics.
There will be many people in Moss Bank who will remember Carole for the help and advice she gave them. She was well respected for her work when she was portfolio holder for Environmental Protection.
Our thoughts are with her family that she loved so dearly and I know there will be many treasured memories of Carole as a dedicated wife and mother.”
A close friend added: “Carole was one of the most caring and committed people I have ever known who worked tirelessly for her constituents in Moss Bank and the wider community of St. Helens. Her compassion for people was well known as too was her love of animals - to the extent that she often travelled to Egypt to help out friends who looked after neglected donkeys to ease their suffering.
“The town has lost a true champion and good friend. She will be very sadly missed.”
Carole leaves husband Steve, three children and four grandchildren.
The funeral will take on Monday, March 25 at 10am at St Peter and Paul’s Church followed by burial at St Helens Cemetery.
