Raise a cup to a special lady

GUESTS will raise their cups to the memory of a special lady at a coffee morning next week.

Elsie Roberson was known throughout St Helens as a straight-talking and strong-minded woman who was the driving force behind numerous campaigns on the local charity scene, including for our hospice and the NSPCC.

Her daughter, Carolyn, holds the coffee event on Tuesday, March 12 from 10.30am to noon at Grange Park Golf Club to mark the fourth anniversary of her mum’s death.

Elsie, who died aged 92 at home in Eccleston Park in 2009, was born in Toronto, Canada in 1916, moving to England after The Second World War.

Carolyn said: “She led an extremely full life and has been the inspiration behind so many things – in business, the community, the neighbourhood, and always put others before herself.

“Despite being blind, frail and with significant hearing loss, she was a remarkable and determined woman who woke up every day with the attitude “if I wake up alive I must do something to help others and make the most of the day ahead”.

There will be a home baking stall, bring and buy and raffle. All proceeds go to St Helens NSPCC. For details ring Carolyn Roberson on 07775 586 411.
