IT proved a right grand day for a St Helens family as their home became the 1,000th to be transformed under a multi-million pound energy efficiency scheme.
Mark Higgins, Leanne Price and daughter Jasmine, five, live in one of 650 Helena Partnerships properties on the Four Acre estate in Clock Face which has seen energy-saving improvements designed to reduce fuel bills by up to 25 per cent.
More than £5 million has been invested in the scheme by Helena, British Gas and Renewables and Energy Efficiency in Community Housing.
Mark said: “We’ve lived on the estate for seven years, and it’s looking brighter and cleaner than ever since the scheme transformed the outside appearance of our houses.
“The change has also inspired people to start looking after their gardens, and more families want to live here now as the houses look brand new.”
Throughout the scheme residents have volunteered as part of the Four Acre Controlling Energy group, which aims to raise awareness of ways to reduce energy consumption and fuel bills.
Schoolchildren have created a book of energy-saving tips and designed lamp-post signs to promote their messages around the estate.
